Christian Gallegos-Alarcón
he/him Program Associate
Christian is committed to protecting our environment, elevating craft, advancing science and empowering individuals. He works across grantmaking, research and program implementation to connect people with the tools they need to catalyze change.
Christian’s career has shown him that environmental challenges are fundamentally human challenges, and that great solutions come from people. During his time in consulting, most recently at Energy Solutions, his projects expanded clean energy access, facilitated national communications campaigns and advanced policy shaped by frontline communities. Prior to consulting, Christian worked at the National Park Service, supporting the "Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance" program in Washington, D.C., and serving as an interpretive park ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colo. These experiences taught him that lasting environmental progress happens when people recognize themselves as part of the natural world, not separate from it. As a program associate at the Foundation, Christian applies these insights to ensure solutions are technically sound and human-centered.
The child of immigrants, Christian's work is shaped by a deep connection to place and an enduring belief in possibility. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in environmental studies and a minor in professional writing in 2018, and he earned recognition as a Bonnie Reiss Fellow from the UC Office of the President.
Outside of work, you can find Christian practicing yoga, backpacking to the nearest alpine lake or trying a new Barefoot Contessa recipe.
